- Do I have to register?
No, you can convert approximately 2000 words at any one time using our totally free of charge service, which is vastly more than any other unregistered service.
- What is the advantage of registering?
You will receive free additional services such as conversion of:
• documents (*.doc)
• Pdf files (*.pdf with text content)
• Web sites (html based)
• Text Files (*.txt)
• RSS Feeds
There is no need to input details such as e-mail address, location or age each time you make a conversion. You will also be given a location where your files can be temporarily stored and if required they can be shared with the world on the free content pages (subject to content and usual terms and conditions).
- Is it free to register?
Yes for personal use it is absolutely free.
- What is ABC2MP3.com?
ABC2MP3.com is a free service where you can convert text to natural sounding voices using text to speech technology. These files can then be listened to on mp3 players such as iPods. The advantage of such a service is that you can convert all those files and web pages you never get round to reading. You can then listen to them while you are doing something else.
- What is Text to Speech Technology (TTS)?
Text to Speech technology is the ability to turn text information into clear sounding speech. This is done through clever technology which is not perfect but is very easy to understand and use.
- What do the voices sound like?
We currently have 4 excellent voices and examples of how they sound can be found on our home page.
- Can you read other languages?
Not currently but there are plans to include this function in the near future.
- How long will it take me to create a file?
Our server can generate 1 hours worth of reading in about a minute. If it takes a longer time then, it is probably due to the high volumes of traffic. Receiving files by e-mail is a good way to avoid any waiting.
- Can I remove the adverts?
Yes you can by joining as a business member (A one month free trial is available).
- Can I make my own adverts or charge other people to include their adverts in my recordings?
Yes you can as either use converted text or a pre recorded mp3 file. This can be done when you become a business member (A one month free trial is available).
- Can I save the reading?
Yes. You have many options for what you can do with your reading. You can download it to your computer, iPod, or other mp3 player. If you register for a free account, the file will be placed in your personal page for a week to download at your leisure. The same recordings can also be made available for anyone on your own free personal ABC2MP3 website. It is advisable to place links to this page from your own websites so people will know it exists.
- Can I adjust my reader’s speed?
Yes, you can adjust your readers speed before you create a recording. On the input or upload pages, there is a box that you can adjust in order to speed up or slow down your reader. We set a default at a reasonable speed. We encourage you to create sample readings until you find the desired speed. Then you can create your full length recording in the desired speed. 170 words per minute is a normal setting
- Can I adjust the speed after the recording is made?

- Why are your readers mispronouncing words?
Our readers are some of the best available and are a vast improvement on what was available a few years ago, however they are not perfect. To improve the quality, try the following:
• If your reader is mispronouncing words: Type phonetically (fone-net-tik-ly).
• For a pause in the text: place a , or . (comma or full stop)
• To increase the reader’s pitch: Place a ? or ! after the word. - Can I distribute my readings?
You cannot distribute the readings in any way other than using the ABC2MP3.com website due to licensing agreement with our partners. However, we offer simple solutions for you to share your readings using the ABC2MP3 Website.
- Can I download my readings?
Yes, you can download your reading as long as it is for your personal use. You cannot then sell or distribute your readings without ABC2MP3.com written permission. We are always happy for you to contact us with your requirements that can often be catered for.
- Can I sell my readings?
No, you cannot use your readings for any commercial purpose, or distribute your readings from anywhere other than the ABC2MP3.com website without written permission from ABC2MP3.com.
- If you cannot find the suitable category for my recordings?
Please use the contact us form to suggest a new one.
- How does my Podcast work? I am new to iTunes.
To set up iTunes you must have it installed on your computer, then copy the web address (URL) in the bar at the top of your podcast page. Follow this link to iTunes.
